The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. Refrigerants are liquids stored in your air conditioner’s coils that cool and dehumidify indoor air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 as a result of its destructive impact to the environment. Introducing R-410A To reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and is free of chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in West Palm Beach because it’ll help make your system perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and offer the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was made anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You might think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is completely unavailable. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Summit Air Conditioning Inc work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. You should also steer clear of”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
